Senior Operations Manager, Den Helder

Having spent over 13 years with Expro, in 2019, I decided to move to the Netherlands, where I began a new adventure with my wife and two children.

I am the Senior Operations Manager in Den Helder, responsible for our business in the Netherlands and Western Europe.

Joining the team has been a huge life change for us as a family. It is more challenging due to the current global pandemic than we could have anticipated. Yet, the move has helped my favourite hobby, running! I love getting out in the fresh air to clear my head, and the Netherlands flat landscape adds to this enjoyment. Still, living near the coast, I’ve not managed to escape the hills altogether.

Getting the opportunity to live in this beautiful country and conquer the hills, I’ve also decided to embrace the language. I hope it will be beneficial for work; however, the team might have a different outlook.

I began my career with Expro as an assistant Well Test workshop technician in Aberdeen before moving to Subsea and offshore as part of the UK operations team. The time I spent in the workshop and field has positively impacted my current role to relate to our staff’s challenges. When planning and delivering operations, this knowledge helps me make critical decisions to ensure we provide the quality service our clients are used to form Expro.

Over the years, I’ve developed strong relationships with many clients; helping them with technical solutions to exceed their expectations gives me great job satisfaction. Expro has given me many opportunities to develop and progress within the organisation, which I feel is important to pass on to others.

‘The people are what make this place great’.

At the Den Helder facility, no two days are the same; that’s for sure! From equipment mobilising to the phones ringing with clients looking for us to respond to their operations problems, there is never a dull moment.

But the people are what make this place so great! The experienced local-based personnel is always ready to adapt and respond to any challenge the day will bring. Clients trust the team here. It’s an incredible sight to see the trucks rolling back into the yard after another successful operation has been complete.

We have a small close-nit team, which I have enjoyed trying to develop during my time here. We are all based in one main office making it easy for the business development, operations, and support teams to work together and bounce ideas off of one another to deliver the best results.

‘We are experienced, passionate, and committed.’

When I reflect on what the team here in Den Helder has achieved, I’m mindful they have been through a hugely challenging period. When I joined at the end of 2019, they had just gone through a business restructure. The way they have come out the other side of that is something that makes me genuinely proud. They are committed to seeing Expro Den Helder succeed, and their enthusiasm to achieve this is remarkable.

‘Extraordinary performance is about exceeding our client’s expectations safely and professionally. Working together as a team is the only way to achieve this.’

We play our part in shaping the future.

Den Helder is one of Expro’s key Well Intervention hubs. Our extraordinary service quality and safety performance make us stand out. The Netherlands’ market is changing, and Expro is investing in new technologies to keep ourselves positioned as we work together to engineer our future.
