Customer Challenges
- The customer traditionally performed their subsea well access activities in open water using a vertical Xmas Tree
- Due to their preferred solution no longer being available, they decided to change philosophy, opting to perform tubing hanger deployment and well clean-up in a single operation
- Expro were selected due to their extensive experience in executing these types of operations, which included managing complex interface and an orientational helix solution as part of our SSTTA system
- The well was strategically important to the client and their partners to continue and maintain production from the Shetland gas plant
- The operation presented logistical challenges with all equipment requiring sea fastening and inspection prior to rig up offshore
Expro Excellence
- By implementing the Tubing Hanger (TH) deployment and well flow back operational philosophy with Expro’s SSTTA and other complementary completions technologies, Expro enabled the customer to deploy the TH and conduct well clean-up and flow back prior to installing the Xmas Tree
- This integrated approach eliminated the need for an LRP/EDP system, allowing the Xmas Tree to be deployed and commissioned without any additional well intervention
- Expro’s well test team was also onboard, providing full support to ensure a smooth and efficient flowback process
- This operation marked the first use of the multibore heater in the UK sector, which delivered excellent results
Value to Client
- The project attracted significant attention due to the client’s first-time use of an SSTTA on a dual bore TH for well clean-up operations on a vertical Xmas Tree application
- The customer issued Expro a formal recognition letter acknowledging both equipment performance and personnel excellence, as the team successfully delivered one of the highest producing wells tied to the Shetland gas plant
- Building on the success of this operation, the customer is now considering wider adoption of Expro’s dual bore technology
- The project delivered substantial time savings and was completed ahead of schedule • Despite the logistical challenges associated with operating in a shallow reservoir, the accelerated project benefitted significantly from the dual bore solution
- A total of 60MM of gas was flowed back with zero incidents, accidents, or Non-Productive Time (NPT)
- The team achieved 100% JPR with the customer awarding top marks for Expro’s strong pre-job planning and communications
