In-riser subsea well control operations where shearing and sealing of coiled tubing is required have traditionally required a two-valve mechanism: one to shear and one to seal.
But using two valves to shear and seal coiled tubing takes time, and using additional tools adds an extra layer of risk. Today’s operators expect reduced complexity and risk from their subsea well intervention campaigns. They look for new technologies in oil and gas that can deliver more efficient operations.
In our view, when it came to demands for greater efficiency and simplicity in shearing and sealing braided wireline, slickline, and coiled tubing, many conventional systems didn’t seem to cut it.
So, we developed a solution – a single ball-valve that could shear and seal in just one operation. A system that would answer the industry’s call for reduced complexity and risk while advancing the shear and seal process and improving operations management.
Welcome to Solus™.
Reduced risk well control
Solus™ has been tested and validated to API Std 17G and is the industry’s first shear and seal in-riser valve that is fully NACE MR0175 compliant, fail-close, bi-directional sealing and high-debris tolerant system that can shear and seal on braided wireline, slickline, and coiled tubing. Solus™ forms part of a subsea test tree assembly or can also be deployed in an open water application. This advanced equipment technology provides a primary and independent barrier to isolate the well during testing or well intervention operations and reduce emissions risks.
Qualified with 15% sand slurry, Solus™ offers superior high debris (HD) flexibility for situations where high levels of entrained solids and aggressive media are present in the well fluids or if reservoir fracturing has been performed.
Improved operations management
Solus™ is ideal for both in-riser and open-water systems. It’s faster than conventional manual operations. Its modular design allows isolation and disconnection from the well just like a conventional subsea test tree. Its compact design, increased flexibility, and lighter weight support the industry’s adoption of next-generation smaller-sized BOP stacks.
Solus™ suits the entire well lifecycle - from exploration and appraisal and completion intervention to well decommissioning. It empowers more efficient operations in a wide range of applications including, subsea engineering, offshore drilling, well intervention, completion engineering, well control, and supply chain management.
Efficient operations
Solus™ is already being used in the field. It’s been successfully deployed for a new in-riser completions development in the Gulf of Mexico and has been commissioned for an open-water P&A campaign in the North Sea.
Superior subsea engineering
Solus™ cuts through complexity. It gives well control engineers assurance of an independent safety barrier, combined with the surety and confidence that comes from Expro’s integration experience and expertise at the ‘whole system’ level.
Solus™ advances our 40-year legacy of leadership in the global subsea sector. It’s the latest example of how we combine our deep understanding of customer needs with our engineering excellence to develop new technologies in oil and gas.
