Case Study

Expro successfully deploys dual-barrier BRUTE® Storm Systems for temporary well suspension

In Brief

The BRUTE® Storm Systems eliminated the use of drillable cement retainers and cement plugs as well barriers, preventing downtime due to premature setting of drillable products and failed balanced cement plug placement

Product Line

Customer Challenges

  • Our customer in Mexico sought a solution that would meet regulatory requirements for temporary well suspension in order to change their wellhead
  • Two mechanical barriers needed to be deployed in the well to meet the requirements set forth by the regulatory agency

Expro Excellence

  • Two of Expro's 13-3/8”- 14” BRUTE® Storm Systems were deployed and set at depths of 700 meters (2,296 feet) and 100 meters (328 feet)
  • Both BRUTE® Storm Systems were set and tested to 1,000 psi with no issues
  • With the well suspended, the operator was able to successfully change out their wellhead

Value to Client

  • Deployment of the two retrievable BRUTE® Storm Systems allowed the well to be safely suspended, preventing a well control incident from occurring during wellhead replacement operations
  • The BRUTE® Storm Systems eliminated the use of drillable cement retainers and cement plugs as well barriers, preventing downtime due to premature setting of drillable products and failed balanced cement plug placement
  • Additionally, the BRUTE® Storm Systems eliminated the rig time associated with drilling up the drillable products and multiple balanced cement plugs in a low fluid well environment
