Case Study

Coordinated multi-service delivery improves execution across five-well subsea decommissioning campaign

In Brief

Coordinated multi-service delivery enhances efficiency and execution across a five-well subsea decommissioning campaign

Customer Challenges

  • A five-well subsea decommissioning campaign required safe well access, intervention, hydrocarbon management, completion recovery and permanent barrier installation from a MODU
  • Multiple specialist disciplines and service interfaces needed to be coordinated while maintaining well integrity, operational efficiency and continuity across successive wells
  • Expro worked collaboratively with the operator and drilling contractor to develop a repeatable delivery model that could be adapted to the individual requirements of each well

Expro Excellence

Well Access & Intervention

  • Expro provided subsea well access and intervention capability to support safe and efficient access throughout the five-well campaign

Fluids Handling & Completion Recovery

  • A Well Flow Management package supported hydrocarbon management during the campaign, with equipment maintained offshore under Expro’s Bureau Veritas-endorsed Mobile Equipment Integrity Assurance Scheme (MEIAS)
  • Expro combined Cased Hole, E-Line conveyance and specialist abandonment technologies within a coordinated completion recovery service, reducing operational interfaces and providing a single point of accountability

Barrier Assurance

  • Coretrax completion-recovery and barrier-assurance technologies reduced operational steps and contributed approximately 92 hours of rig-time savings across the campaign
  • Lessons learned, industry best practice and new technologies were applied across successive wells to continually improve execution

Value to Client

  • The five-well campaign was completed 39.1 days ahead of the combined design schedule and £4.1m below the combined AFE
  • The coordinated delivery model reduced operational interfaces and supported continuity across multiple abandonment disciplines
  • The methodology was adapted to each well, reducing completion recovery scope, tubular handling requirements and associated Red Zone activity
  • Positive customer feedback highlighted equipment performance, planning, communication and offshore execution throughout the programme
