Customer Challenges
- The customer was experiencing corrosion of the 13 3/8” casing which had resulted in a leak, creating a well integrity issue. As a result, in order to progress with drilling operations, the compromised 13 3/8” casing would have had to be cut and recovered, a new 17 1/2” hole section drilled and a new 13 3/8” casing run and cemented, which would introduce additional operational challenges
- To move forward, Ithaca required a permanent, reliable remediation solution to fully restore casing integrity before side tracking could proceed. The challenge lay in repairing an extended corroded interval in a complex offshore environment, while minimizing rig time, operational risk, and overall cost

- Expro was selected based on a strong track record of delivering expandable casing solutions for Ithaca on Captain platform, alongside proven expertise in well integrity and offshore operations
- After analysing all available well data, Expro designed a tailored solution using the ReLine™ HYD expandable casing system to fully clad the damaged section. The scope included installing a 500 ft expandable casing patch from sea level, providing a long-term integrity solution
- Key elements of Expro’s delivery included:
- Systematically pressure tested and validated integrity of the 13 3/8” casing sections that would remain uncovered by the casing patch with the AEON RTP and an abandonment valve after cutting and retrieval of the 9 5/8” casing
- Deployment of the ReLine™ HYD expandable casing patch using Expro TRS
- Completion of the installation in a single run, significantly reducing rig time and operational complexity
- Successful pressure testing confirming full integrity restoration
- Close collaboration across Expro product lines to ensure seamless execution and minimize risk
- This integrated, efficient approach differentiated Expro from competitors and ensured a fast, safe, and cost-effective solution
