Customer challenges
- An offshore operatorinitiated plans to conduct well decommissioning operations for an oil producing well, located offshore Angola
- The main objectives of the decommissioning were:
- To conduct wellbore decommissioning of the field without any health, safety or environmental incidents
- To successfully re-enter the well
- Permanently kill the well and isolate the formation
- Cut and retrieve the production tubing and packer
- Install and verify final cement plug placement, including placing remedial cement in B annulus
- Explosive free, repeatable, perforating solution for remedial cementing
Expro Excellence
- The operation began with the deployment of a 9-5/8 CX-2 Bridge Plug and Superflow system to isolate the lower section of the well. This approach eliminated the need for a separate scraper trip
- The 9-5/8” BRUTE® Force Service Packer was then deployed with Lee Energy Systems’ Gator hydromechanical perforator, to perforate the casing and test to identify any losses from the lower perforation. Using this assembly provided efficient annular communication testing using the Lee Energy Systems' Gator hydromechanical perforating tool and BRUTE® Force Service Packer, without the use of explosives
- Operational sequence:
- Run 1 - Set CX-2 Bridge Plug with CX-Superflow Sacrificial Scraper at 1,725m
- Run 2 - Perforate 9-5/8” casing at 1,700m and 10-3/4” casing at 1,700m with Lee Energy Systems Gator hydromechanical explosive free perforator and deployment of BRUTE®
- Force Service Packer at 1,600m for circulation between perforations
- Run 3 - Set CX-SV cement retainer at 1,680m and squeeze cement into the B annulus, release retainer, and place cement plug on top
Value to client
- Efficient operations, reducing and optimizing the number of trips made in hole to reach well objectives
- The operation was completed as planned, marking a milestone in a complex well abandonment
- This success underlines Expro’s expertise and cross-product line integration, ensuring client satisfaction
