- A North Sea operator sought a solution to reduce underreaming vibrations
- The Expro HI TOOL® Harmonic Isolation Tool was deployed in the 8 1/2” - 9 1/2” sidetrack to mitigate vibration harmonics traveling from the underreamer assembly downward into the M/LWD RSS BHA. The objective was to drill the sidetrack in one run

- It was suspected that the vibrations were caused by vibration harmonics created by the underreamer traveling down and could accelerate toward the lower BHA. The HI TOOL® Harmonic Isolation Tool was placed just above the M/LWD-RSS BHA to decouple the underreamer interference and prevent vibrations traveling into the costly BHA
Value to Client
- In this well, with the HI TOOL® Harmonic Isolation Tool above the M/ LWD-RSS BHA and below the underreamer, both axial and lateral vibrations were greatly minimized. The section was drilled in two runs with an improvement of 44% ROP when compared to the offset wellThe PDC Bit graded 1-1-CT-N-X-I-NO-TD
