Use of HI TOOL® results in record coring run for customer in the gulf
Customer challenges
  • A Gulf of Mexico operator sought a solution to retrieve quality core samples
  • The use of the 800 series HI TOOL® was requested to reduce vibrations in order to retrieve a quality core sample, increase core barrel efficiency, and reduce rig time. The well plan was to collect a predetermined length of core sample in four runs
Expro Excellence
  • The HI TOOL® was positioned above the core barrels in the BHA to reduce non-productive time (NPT), increase efficiency by minimizing vibrations and improving core quality, and eliminate unnecessary trips due to partially filled core barrels
Value to client
  • The use of the HI TOOL® in the 8 1/2” section led to the successful retrieval of quality core samples. The starting coring depth was 32,149 feet and the customer had a target core of 650 feet. Only three runs were needed and cores of 222.3, 259.9, and 177.7 feet in length were recovered in 73.28 coring hours
  • Average of 99.39% core recovery
  • Reduced the number of trips needed to retrieve target core length
  • Longest coring run to date in Gulf of Mexico for customer
