It’s the last day at Offshore Europe 2017, which means that it’s the official school’s day ‘Energise Your Future’ organised by OPITO (Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organisation). The theme of Offshore Europe is ‘embracing new realities’, something which we all should continue to do. We are hoping to encourage students to learn STEM subjects and show them the great opportunities that working in the oil and gas industry offers. 

The early years of my oil and gas career were quite a whirl wind!  After joining in 2002 as a Well Test Engineer, I spent 2-4 months in different locations working in data acquisition, multiphase metering and drill stem testing.  This gave me an excellent grounding and well site experience, alongside exposure to different cultures and teams. 

When I started my current role in our Wireless Well Solutions business, I didn’t foresee the huge change ahead of us in the industry – but that’s exactly what happened when I transferred in 2014.
 

This will be my sixth SPE Offshore Europe conference and each one has been in the shadow of a different market outlook – or at least a changing one.
The first question everyone asks is, ‘what will this year be like’?  I personally think we are moving toward a more positive outlook, but very cognisant of the challenges we face.  For example, operators remain committed to well intervention related activity that maximises production and maintains well integrity, however the exploration and appraisal market still remains suppressed.
