Case Study

Expro delivers onshore LNG pre-treatment facility in West Africa

In Brief

Expro enables rapid delivery of an onshore LNG pre-treatment solution in West Africa

Product Line

Customer Challenges

  • In January 2023, Expro was awarded a long-term Production Solutions contract with the client for a liquified natural gas (LNG) pre-treatment facility in Congo
  •  The contract included the design, construction, 10-years operation and maintenance for a fast-track onshore LNG pre-treatment facility (OPT) as part of the Marine XII development offshore Congo. As of the date of publishing, the facilities have been operating with greater than 98% availability
  • The new facility, and associated FLNG vessel, allows for increased LNG imports to Europe and ultimately low-carbon power generation. First gas was exported to the clients FLNG vessel approximately 22 months after contract signature, and since then, we have been exporting 2.3 million cubic meters per day of treated gas at the contractual specifications, and with more than 98% plant availability
  •  Expro’s customer contracted to deploy an existing Floating LNG Vessel (FLNG) to their existing Offshore field development in the Republic of Congo, where gas treated onshore would be liquified offshore and exported to mainland Europe. As such, project schedule was critical to project success
  •  Compliance to local and Customer HSE standards and specifications was essential to final acceptance and overall project performance

Expro Excellence

  • Expro successfully delivered the project on an accelerated schedule, completing it within 22-months. This included the engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of the facility, which was producing on specification within 72-hours from start-up
  • The project was completed to the highest standards 30 to 50% faster than a typical EPC contracting schedule
  • Using a collaborative project execution approach, Expro and the client’s project teams were able to navigate significant global supply chain disruptions, both in country and in the global freight forwarding market

Value to Client

  • Thanks to Expro’s modular, standardized package designs and commitment to quality, safety, and superior project execution, the facilities were delivered on a fast-track basis. The new facilities featured mercury removal, CO2 removal, gas dehydration, dewpoint control, and export gas compression, in addition to typical utilities and power generation systems
  • Additionally, Expro’s long standing expertise in operations and maintenance of modular compression facilities worldwide has allowed the operations team to gain deep insights into optimizing the gas compression systems. This ensures efficiency and production uptime (greater than 98%) for the client, even in complex and challenging operational environments
