Reducing flaring footprint in Natural Reserve area

Combining our well testing expertise and innovative engineering led to zero impact and environmental compliance for a protected forest in Australia.

Driving decarbonization through innovation.

The Perth Basin is home to a Nature Reserve forest classified by the Western Australian State government. It’s a delicate ecosystem with strict environmental regulations, but it’s also an area of gas exploration.

We partnered with a leading energy company to undertake a critical well testing program for three wells, focused on striving to minimize the environmental impact of flaring. Achieving this required innovative thinking combined with deep engineering expertise.

Our solution: a bespoke 100 ft flare stack to help minimize the test area and a closed-loop caution recovery system to avoid burning liquids on site.

By moving forward with this solution, the project achieved its objectives with zero impact on the protected forest and no liquid flaring. It complied with all regulations, reduced the area’s CO2 footprint, and further reduced its environmental footprint by reducing the size of the testing site.

The closed-loop system saved 75,000 kg of equivalent CO₂ emissions and recovered 185 barrels of diesel and condensate.
