Blackhawk SKYHOOK™ Device Wins OH&S 2017 New Product of the Year – Safety Barriers Category

6th September 2017

In a press release dated September 6, 2017, Occupational Health & Safety magazine named the Frank’s International – Blackhawk Specialty Tools SKYHOOK™ Wireless Cementing Line Make Up Device the winner of the ninth annual OH&S New Product of the Year contest in the Safety Barriers category. The winning entries were determined by an independent panel of three safety industry judges. This marks the second award for the SKYHOOK™ device, which won the New Technology of the Year Award at the Texas Oil and Gas Awards in October 2016, following its first field deployment in September 2016 in the Gulf of Mexico.

The SKYHOOK™ Wireless Cementing Line Make Up Device is a patent-pending technology developed and manufactured by Blackhawk Specialty Tools, a division of Frank’s International. The SKYHOOK™ device’s safety features allow operators to make up their cementing iron or hose without the need to send rig personnel above the rig floor. In conjunction with Blackhawk’s automated wireless cement-head, the SKYHOOK™ device serves to eliminate the final trip in the derrick; meaning a cement job can be performed in its entirety without ever sending a person to work at heights.
