My Journey with Expro: Tommy Edgar

12th December 2016

As a technical sales engineer, my role in Expro is to provide technical expertise for tenders in terms of support and proposal preparation. My team work globally and we are responsible for travelling to conferences wherever our clients require us.

Before I joined Expro, I was based in Saudi Arabia working for another oilfield services company. I hadn’t been out of the desert for four months and my motivation in the job was becoming really low. I had friends in Aberdeen who worked for Expro and one of them text me to tell me about a job opportunity based in the south coast of the UK. I looked at the job description and researched Expro and it sounded like the perfect thing for me! The company values appealed to me, so I immediately applied for the job.

In my spare time, I love to play rugby. One of the best things about the sport, apart from keeping me fit, is that it teaches me discipline and teamwork which I use in my job daily. The attitudes and mind-sets I develop playing the game are very useful. One of the biggest challenges in my job is keeping up to date with new projects and technologies. The perseverance you use during a game of rugby is similar to what you have to display when you are faced with a particularly tricky task at work.

I love to travel and working in a global organisation like Expro means that I have been given the opportunity to travel all over the world, from Brazil to Kenya, Norway to Mexico and everywhere in between. When you are travelling with one or two other colleagues, friendships are created very quickly. The people in this business are easygoing and you can really get along with everyone. Without such a great team of people, Expro wouldn’t be Expro. The whole company prides itself on a great work ethic and the friendships everyone has here.
